Day 8: Happy International Women’s Day

We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog post for this breaking news: Today, March 8, 2016, is International Women’s Day and as a feminist, I feel that I need to take a moment to recognize this day. I may only be a 20-something, closer to 20 than 30, but I know that women have come a long way. There is still a lot of work to be done. I would like to share this quote by Ayelet Waldman:

“I mean, I absolutely call myself a feminist. And by that, I mean a woman who believes that your opportunities should not be constrained by your gender, that women should be entitled to the same opportunities as men.”

The quote is based in a binary world view of gender, but I feel that this quote is still important. All people deserve to have access to the same opportunities as those who exist in a state of privilege. This applies to more than just cis-gender people and those who identify as male: race, sexual orientation, etc. I will refer back to this another day, but for now: Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Today’s Discussion Topic: Discuss a moment when you felt most satisfied with your life?

This is actually a difficult one for me because I have an awesome life for the most part. That’s not to brag because there are days when I can’t even remember why I like where my life is at, but I’ve been pretty lucky to have an amazing family and wonderful friends. It makes pinpointing a specific moment a bit difficult.

I think for this one I’m going to have to say that today is the day I feel most satisfied with my life so far. To look back on my life today, I don’t have any regrets and I feel satisfied that I have done the best I can. I’m half way done my English degree. I finally have a novel idea that I love and can’t stop writing (just under 30, 000 words). I’m married to my best friend who I love so much. She is the person that eats the fudge and crunchy parts of the DQ ice cream cake, so I can enjoy the vanilla ice cream. That’s one of the reasons I love her so much.

I have a great relationship with my family and a great group of in-laws. My friends (especially those in my wedding party) are amazing and supportive. I have two adorable fur babies; they may be brats, but we love them. I have so much to be grateful for with so many great people in my life. Despite the difficulties that life throws at me, I know that I have the support system to make it through anything. I cannot thank these people enough.

And tomorrow, I will probably be more satisfied than today. I’m grateful for every day I have.
